Emailing Record Company

This is our e-mail which we sent to RCA Record Company regarding the song I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker by Sandi Thom. We did this to raise the points that this video will not be sold, there will be no copyright issues and that we are solely using it for educational purposes only.

Ideas

These are some images of the type of effects we thought we could use throughout our video. We liked the whole 'rounded-egde' shot and also the sepia or black and white effect as it would contrast well with our retro theme.

Ideas

Whilst collecting images for my mood board, I came along the famous image of The Beatles crossing Abbey Road in 1969. I had an idea for our music video which could relate to this image; with our hippy clothing and setting, we could do a stop start kind of motion where we could have the girl crossing the road (zebra crossing) and her position stops in the same positions as the beatles members as she continues to walk; this could be captured over the chorus to each beat.

Video Inspiration

Miss showed us this advert in the lesson which consisted of the retro setting with a young girl juxtapised against the modern setting with a young boy. Our group went away and thought the split screens and the change from retro to modern could work well with our video as we look to switch from hippy to modern as the song progresses.

Music Video Ideas

These are a few ideas we noted down in a spider diagram for things such as setting/location, clothing and which props we could use throughout our video. We have decided to film in an open field to show freedom throughout the 'hippy' half of our music video whereas we have decided to film up London in a congested place to show the overtake of technology in the 'business woman' side of our music video.

These 2 images show the clothing we would use throughout our video as the old 'hippy clothing' would juxtapose with the 'modern clothing'. For example doc martens against flat studded shoes.



Mood board

These are some images i collected for a mood board to broadcast what will be going on in our music video. The image of the busy street and girl in the field are some of the settings we are thinkingof including, the girl in the field creates an atmosphere of being very calm and peaceful for the audience whereas the busy street will highlight the girl as being the odd one out in the crowd.and very hectic. We were thinking of having the girl dressed in hippy clothing whilst walking through a group of business men which is not only juxtapising the two, but also creating links between visual effects and lyrics. Our hippy genre also allows us to use accesories from that era which also makes up the mise-en-scene as we include peace signs, guitas etc.

Three Song Choices

Idea Number 1



This is one of the first songs that our group looked at to choose for our music video and it turnt out to be our groups favourite choice.

Advantages:

• Fits the genre of music we want to do
• Upbeat and catchy song which would attract more of an audience 
• Fits with the narrative video we want to create

Disadvantages:

• Very mainstream and well known band
• Male vocalist which would generally not look right with a female in the video singing
• Have a very good video already

Idea Number 2



This is our second favourite music video we was looking at

Advantages:

• Female vocalists which would fit with our group more
• Funny lyrics which could relate to teenagers
• Quirky song which a narrative would fit with

Disadvantages:

• Very well known artist
• Did not fit with the genre we wanted to do
• Has a narrative video which links to the lyrics and subject of the song which we may be compared to

Idea Number 3



This was the last song our group looked at, they are currently not even on youtube

Advantages:

• Very unknown
• Don't have a video, so have nothing to be compared to
• Female vocalist which will look more realistic

Disadvantages:

• A narrative video would not really fit to this type of song
• Is not the type of song we wanted to do/does not fit our genre
• Also has a male vocalist which would not look right having a female sing that part as we do not look to include males
